The pepperjamNETWORK Factsheet
Advertiser
A Pepperjam Network advertiser is an online retailer/merchant or service provider that sells goods and services and promotes them through various methods.
Publisher / Affiliate
On Pepperjam Network, an affiliate marketing publisher (also commonly referred to as an "affiliate") is typically a website owner that works with select merchant advertisers on an agreed upon pay-for-performance basis. Publishers only get paid, and advertisers only pay, when the publisher initiates a transaction. For instance, if publisher.com refers a $65 sale through her Web site to advertiser.net, publisher.com gets paid either a flat payout or a percentage of the overall sale.
Affiliate Network
Pepperjam Network is a 3rd party solution that provides publishers and advertisers with affiliate tracking, reporting, and payment technology, among other things. Pepperjam Network represents the next generation of affiliate marketing by providing all of the basics above, as well as a user-friendly Web 2.0 interface, communication tools (i.e. Pepperjam Chat), an educational resource center (The Pepperjam Knowledge Vault), and full and unfettered affiliate transparency (the Pepperjam Transparency Meter).
Advertiser Creatives
On Pepperjam Network, advertiser "creatives" include banners, text links, product feeds, and pepperjamADS™.
pepperjamADS™
pepperjamADS™ is an affiliate marketing widget that you can use to serve customized contextual ads from one or multiple Pepperjam Network advertisers at the same time. The ad units come in various shapes and sizes. You can mix and mash ads from any of your merchant partners. For instance, you can create a fashion widget by selecting various ads from multiple fashion merchants. Likewise, you can create a specific widget with ads from any one merchant.
Here is a pepperjamADS Video Tutorial:
The thing that really separates pepperjamADS™ technology from anything else is that you (the publisher) get to choose the ads you want in the widget. Think about it - on other affiliate networks you simply select a specific banner or specific text link for one merchant. You are limited to promoting one specific merchant per creative. Not with Pepperjam Network and pepperjamADS™.
Promoting Pepperjam Network Advertisers
Pepperjam Network advertisers provide publishers with various creatives, including:
- text links
- product feeds
- pepperjamADS™
- banners
- dynamic rich media

Note that all of the promotional methods above may or may not be acceptable to all Pepperjam Network advertisers. Advertisers reserve the right to accept or decline publisher applications for any reason or no reason at all.
Pepperjam Network does not allow or tolerate publishers that use practices that are forbidden by the majority of PJN advertisers. Such non-tolerated promotional methods include non-consensual, deceptive software downloads, any type of cookie stuffing, and phishing, among other things. Please contact Pepperjam Network with any questions about promotional methods that are not tolerated by our advertisers.
Performance Based Marketing
Pepperjam Network is a performance based marketing network. Publishers get compensated only when a transaction occurs. These actions include sales, leads, or e-mail submits.
Commission Payout
Publishers are compensated on a flat, cost per action (CPA) or percentage-of-sale basis. Publisher payments are made every two weeks and are processed on or around the 1st and 15th of every month. Publishers should allow up to 7 business days for processing of payments. Only valid leads or sales will be compensated once approved by each advertiser.
Click-Through
A click-through is defined as the action of clicking on a Pepperjam Network tracking link, as is embedded in the advertiser banner, text link, or pepperjamAD™. Following a valid click-through, a cookie tracks a consumer action for a period, which is designated in the advertiser terms.
- Impression: How many times a consumer views a Pepperjam Network creative.
- Click: Consumers see advertising and click.
- Conversion: Consumers see advertising, click, hit a site, and an action occurs
- Action: A sale, lead, or submit following a Pepperjam Network click through.
- CPA: Cost Per Action
- CPM: Cost Per Thousand Impressions
EPC (Earnings Per Click)
Commissions earned / 100 Clicks. This number is often used to determine and predict profitability. For instance, if you are spending 12 cents to generate a click and your EPC is 20 cents, you are "earning" 8 cents every time you generate a click. Note that EPC is variable and is greatly influenced by the nature and quality of the traffic flowing into and out of your Web site.
Click Rate
A metric calculated by impressions divided by clicks.
Conversion Rate
The number of clicks divided by the number of actions (sale, lead, submit).
Affiliate Marketing Program
An affiliate program allows advertisers and publishers to work on a defined, pay-for-performance basis. Pepperjam Network facilitates the tracking, reporting, and payment associated with an affiliate marketing program.

Requirements For Advertiser:
The ideal candidate is an existing e-commerce property or business entity with national or international reach that is willing to partner with publishers and online marketers on a pay-for-performance basis. Advertisers only pay publishers when a valid action or transaction, as defined by the advertiser, occurs.
Advertisers are required to provide publishers with banner and text-based creatives. Placement of a unique Pepperjam Network tracking pixel on the thank you or confirmation page of the advertiser is required for acceptance.
Pepperjam reserves the right to accept or decline any advertiser on Pepperjam Network.
Requirements for Publisher:
The ideal publisher is a website owner/on line marketer that is willing to partner and promote ecommerce properties on a Pay Per Performance basis. They can promote goods and/or services without the burden of managing an actual company.
Commission Payout:
Pepperjam Network generally offers two types of payment options:
- Cost-Per-Action (CPA)
- Percentage of a sale
CPA commission payouts are typically associated with flat payout offers. For instance, submission of an e-mail, completion of a form, or performing a specific action can all be compensated on a CPA basis.
Percentage-of-sale payouts are typically associated with transactions that include a shopping cart. For instance, generating a sale for Target.com or Amazon.com are examples of shopping cart transactions that would result in a payout on a percentage-of-sale basis.
Pepperjam Network advertisers have the choice of paying publishers on either or both a CPA and percentage-of-sale basis.
Transparency
Pepperjam Network ranks its publishers on the basis of transparency. Pepperjam Network utilizes a proprietary algorithm to determine transparency ranking of each publishers. The result of this algorithm is illustrated in the Pepperjam Network transparency meter which is displayed throughout the publisher and advertiser account. Higher levels of transparency result in better payouts by select merchants and other significant benefits. A transparency rating of 5 out of 5 is received by about 5% of Pepperjam Network publishers.
If you are a publisher and would like to increase your transparency rating, please contact your dedicated, personal account representative.
