Pepperjam Network “Meet the Affiliates” Interview #17: Introducing Bob Jones

Welcome to Week #17 of the Pepperjam Network “Meet the Affiliates” Interview Series!
This week I interview Bob Jones. Bob was the brilliant “man behind” the creation of John Cow (www.johncow.com) - For those of you that don’t know, www.JohnCow.com was a spinoff of the success and fame of John Chow - a former “Meet the Affiliates” interviewee.
Read on to learn more about Bob Jones.
Here are the rules…
The Pepperjam Network “Meet the Affiliates” Interview Series will feature an original up-close interview with an affiliate marketer every Friday. Priority will be given to Pepperjam Network affiliates, but that is not a requirement to share your story. If you’d be interested in being interviewed please submit your request here - please make sure to tell us why you think your story is especially entertaining or educational and worth sharing with our readers.
As the series progresses we will do our best to ask questions that both entertain and educate! We encourage you to comment on each of the interviews, as well as ask follow-up questions of the interviewee.
Lastly, if you are a blogger or just someone with a network of likeminded affiliate marketing friends, we encourage you to share our interviews series with anyone who you think may benefit. Also, since you won’t want to miss an interview once it’s published I encourage you to join the Feedburner Pepperjam Network RSS Feed, which is located at the top of this page or by clicking here.
Well…let’s get on to the interview!
Meet the Affiliates: Interview #17

Bob Jones
Formerly Known as John Cow
Question #1
KRIS: Where do you live? Are you married? Any children? Animals?
BOB: I’m living in Australia at the moment, recently got engaged, no children, but we are looking to get a dog soon
Question #2
KRIS: OK, let’s get to the big secret - you are the founder and brilliant mind behind “John Cow - www.johncow.com.” Tell us about the story behind launching the site and share with us how you were able to build and eventually sell the site…
BOB: There’s not much of a story to tell really. Like many other bloggers, I was amazed by the success story of JohnChow.com and after having read his blog for a while, I thought it’d be funny to pull a prank on him by setting up the parody blog. The domain was already registered three months before I tried to grab it by a domain squatter. After about 25 emails back and forth, I managed to buy the domain for 10% of the original $800 asking price. I guess he wasn’t aware of John Chow at the time. Besides the fun I had running the blog, I’m glad I got to know John Chow as a friend.
Question #3
KRIS: How and when did you get involved in affiliate marketing. Tell us the story.
BOB: Basically because I was copycatting an MMO blog, I read more and more about how niche sites make money. Obviously Affiliate Marketing is a biggie in the MMO niche, and I started looking into possibilities to rake in some extra cash on the side. I still have a lot to learn, but I’m getting there.
Question #4 KRIS: What projects are you currently working on?
BOB: I have several websites running at the moment, testing the waters in different areas, away from the MMO niche. A project in the works for example is a news-ish blog - http://www.deliciouslytasteless.com - with opinionated articles. The idea is to have this grow as a collective blog with several authors, more Search Engine traffic targeted. To be honest, there’s not a lot of money to make in the MMO business since most participants are quite Internet Marketing savvy themselves. You can’t sell a used car to a used car salesman I reckon.
Question #5
KRIS: Share with us your background?
BOB: My background is quite diverse. Up untill 10 years ago, I probably had done more jobs than the average person. Until one day I came across a PC and managed to “Format C:/” within the hour. It wasn’t mine so I had to fix it before the owner found out I had wrecked it. It took me several hours, but I got Win 98 (haha) reinstalled, and eversince I developed a taste for IT. Since then I have had a few jobs, mainly as a network/sys admin, Linux, Unix and have done 3rd level support for Dell SAN solutions. I quit my last 9-5 job about a year ago.
Question #6
KRIS: What are your top 5 favorite movies of all time? If you don’t watch movies..share with us your top 3 books of all time?
BOB: I’m a huge Tarantino fan, love all the cheesy 80’s action hero movies like Rocky, Rambo, and the Terminator. Some more recent favorites would be The Butterfly effect, Iron Man and The Dark Knight. Also own the entire James Bond Collection on DVD.
Question #7
KRIS: Please share with us your top three money making tools…
BOB: The Internet, my trustworthy Macbook pro and my brain.
Question #8
KRIS: Please name some of your favorite online educational resources (i.e. blogs)….
BOB: To be honest, I don’t subscribe to that many blogs. If I’m looking for something, the only way to go is Google.
Question #9
KRIS: If you could trade shoes with anyone for an entire year who would it be and why?
BOB: Paris Hilton. The only stress I’d have would be deciding what clothes to wear for a year. That’s like totally hot.
Question #10
KRIS: Many people will be surprised to hear that you are the originator of “John Cow.” Can you share with us two additional things that people might be surprised to learn about you (i.e. do you have any special talents, etc.)?
BOB: Two other things…well for one, I’m a Dutch native. English isn’t my first language, and second - I’m special enough to be asked by the CEO of Pepperjam for an interview!
