I find comparing skills between football and afl quite ridiculous. Of course soccer players are going to have troubles with the oval ball as they are not familiar with it! You think the afl stars can shoot basket as well as the trained basketball players, of course not. It has been said and proven that athletes with good physique and strength can be trained to be good nfl or rugby players and even play competitively at the professional levels for a few. But it's just not possible in football (soccer) to come late into the game and play at the highest levels. That means the skill level required for soccer at the professional level is very hard to attain. Of course afl requires more sets of skills but those are attainable by the right people with the right attributes even if they come late into the game. Not so in football, not without the talents.
